CHARITY OF THE YEAR

Each year, the OWA committee, in consultation with our members and community chooses a worthy charity to support.

2019-20 Charity of the Year

Australian Red Cross

The Australian Red Cross is a humanitarian aid and community services charity that provides a range of services and programmes including disaster relief within Australia, international aid across the Asia-Pacific region, international humanitarian law advocacy, migration support, emergency management, blood donation via the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, and community services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, youth, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

Our donation came at a time when Australia was on fire. Every day Australians lost their homes, livelihoods and even their lives. The Red Cross provided aid to families and communities during the state of emergency and have helped to rebuild communities and offer grants in the wake. They also provide resources to prepare and recover for emergencies.
